Packed Weekend

Hello, hello!  Another weekend has come and gone.  How was yours?  Spectacular, I hope!

Mine was packed, but so fun!  Jesse, his sister and I all headed over to Athens (the town where I attended undergrad) for a concert Friday night.  Jesse is really into bluegrass-type music, and a band we found completely by accident one night here in Atlanta was playing at a venue in Athens called the Melting Point.

It was such an awesome venue because it is very intimate.  All in all, about fifty people were in attendance and we were able to sit really close to the band with a table and drink service at no extra charge.  It made it almost seem like a private concert!

The band is called Chatham County Line. They are extremely entertaining and so fun to watch!  It is really interesting to experience a band like them that takes advantage of lesser-used instruments like mandolins and banjos.  I loved the concert and I'm sure Jesse and I will be going back to see them again the next time they are in or near town.

We headed out for a few adult beverages post-concert and ended up running into the band at a late-night grub joint.  (Little Italy for you Athenites out there!) It was really neat because Jesse got to have a conversation with them (hopefully) without seeming like a crazed groupie.  I kept my distance because I didn't want to crowd them with fans on their night out in Athens (also, lets face it, I'm awkward), but I am so glad he got a chance to meet them and chat for a few minutes.

Saturday morning, we were up early and heading back to Atlanta.  We had big plans for the day!  Jesse, his mom, his sister and I all went to brunch at my favorite spot- Sun In My Belly.  As always, it was completely delicious.  After brunch, I took a long nap (much needed!) and then got up and got ready for the soccer game.  Atlanta's professional soccer team is called the Atlanta Silverbacks and we had a double date planned with our friends Traci & Steven for the game Saturday night!

I totally look awkward in that picture but what is new... :D The game was so much fun and we have plans to go back to the next home game with Traci & Steven.  Unfortunately it isn't until June, but we don't mind waiting.

The Silverbacks in Action!
Jesse has been a huge soccer fan basically since the day he was born, so I am really thrilled that soccer is picking up in America.  He actually plays in a league that plays on the Silverbacks' field each week!  There is a reason soccer is the biggest sport worldwide, and I'm a little shocked it has taken this long for Americans to pick up on that.  I've personally never played soccer and don't fully understand the rules, but I really enjoyed watching it live and look forward to the next game we go to!  Plus spending time with Traci drinking cold beer and admiring (read: harassing) our favorite player is definitely a good way to spend time in my book! :D

Sunday was much quieter and I spent a good amount of time relaxing on the couch.  I haven't really had a quiet day to myself in a long while, so after I finished doing my morning errands I decided I ought to take advantage.  I needed to go pick up new running shoes, but the store I like to purchase them from is closed on Sundays.  Instead, I went and got my car washed, stopped by Trader Joe's to pick up a few things, and then headed home to relax.  I meant to get some exercise in, but I also really just wanted a few hours of quiet time.

Instead of a less-than-enthused workout yesterday, I got up and ran this morning.  Sadie really needed the exercise (as did I) so it just seemed right.  I am still planning on attending my regular Body Works class tonight, but I'm not too worried about over-exercising because I took about three too many rest days last week.

After class tonight, I'm heading over to Traci's house (does it seem like to anyone else that she is my only friend?) to watch the Bachelorette with her, Jenna and Erica.  I can't wait!  Not only do I love this group of girls, but there just really is nothing like a Bachelorette girl's night to start the week off right.

Til tomorrow, tell me...

What did you do over the weekend?
Do you like bluegrass music?  On that note... does anyone out there play a unique instrument?  I played flute in middle school and was pretty good but I quit because I didn't like the band director.  I've always wished I knew how to play piano though, and it is on my bucket list to learn!
Are you a soccer fan, or do you prefer another sport?

  1. What a fun weekend! I laughed when I read that the band was called Chatham County Line because when I go to visit my mum, I have to drive through a county called Chatham, AND my roommate is from there!! Bluegrass music.... I can't really say if I like it or not because to be honest, I don't think I've heard enough to be able to decide! As for instruments, I used to play the piano when I was little, but my mum had me in Friday night group lessons with a bunch of Asian children who were about a bazillion times better than me. Needless to say, that didn't last very long!

Oh, and I don't think you look awkward in that photo at all!! You two are such a cute couple (and the mascot is kinda cute too!) :)
