Weekending

Well hello there!  Another Monday is upon us.  groan.  Today is trying me.  I'm hoping things get better as the day goes on!  I'm planning on going to Body Works tonight for the first time in about a month and I can't wait.

It was a pretty great weekend!  Lots of friend time and random roaming around.

Friday night Jesse and I kicked things off with our new favorite adult beverages- Gin & Tonic with a splash of St. Germaine's.  So tasty!  We sat out on the porch enjoying our cocktails and after sitting and chatting for some time, we finally were ready for dinner.

I really wanted Mexican, so we headed over to El Taco in the highlands to indulge. They do this fun thing at El Taco where they give you little chips with numbers on them and each hour they spin a wheel to pick a winner.  Whatever number the wheel lands on gets something for free- a cheese dip, a beer, a tequila shot...

Well, we won!  Lucky number 3!  Of course, we won a tequila shot.

I love tequila, so I was pretty happy!  Jesse went up and got our free shot and I tried a bit of it.  It was terrible!  It tasted mainly like fermented pineapple juice.  Hey- it was still fun to win something!  We set the rest of the "shot" aside and headed home to watch Water for Elephants.  It was a quiet Friday night, but fun nonetheless!

Saturday, we had to deal with some things with our landlord.  After that, I spent a little time getting some sun and then it was time to get ready for a graduation party for one of Jesse's friends.  We stopped to get lunch at Victory (a sandwich place in the Inman Park area) and then headed over to their house around 2pm.  It was really fun to see the group at the graduation party and we really enjoyed ourselves.  We stopped by one more graduation party on the way home and then decided a nap was necessary.  I got home and let Sadie out and then promptly fell asleep.  Naps on the weekend are the best!

Once I woke up from my nap, Jesse and I headed back out to Little 5 Points to meet up with some friends.  You can't spend Cinco de Mayo on the couch!  We met everyone at a place called Star Bar where a pretty crazy man was jamming.

Yes, those are leopard tights.  As pants.  On a man.  You should have seen his bedazzled jean jacket...  We were sufficiently weirded out and decided it was time to head home pretty soon after he took the stage.  It wasn't much of a Mexican Cinco de Mayo, but we had a fun day! Any time spent with friends is good time in my book.

Sunday definitely won as my favorite day of the weekend.  The weather was beautiful, so Jesse and I decided to get our bikes out and ride around town.

Our first stop was Park's Edge where we enjoyed a delicious brunch and bottomless mimosas and bellinis.

Neither Jesse nor I had ever had a bellini before and while we really enjoyed them, they were a little too sweet for us.  In the end we decided to stick to mimosas.  Especially considering what we ordered for brunch...

Chocolate Chip and Strawberry Pancakes.  Talk about a sugar overload.  They were absolutely delicious, but we ended up getting a bowl of grits to balance out the sweet with some savory!  I was only able to eat about a quarter of the pancakes, but I enjoyed every last bite.  The waitress was so accommodating and even let me request light chocolate chips in the pancakes.  This is definitely a place Jesse and I will be returning to for brunch.  We loved the food, the bottomless beverages and the wait staff.  Everything about it was just what we were looking for!  If you haven't been, you should definitely go and check it out.

After brunch, we rode over to Little 5 Points to peruse the vintage shops.  I wasn't really planning on buying anything, but I found some really awesome jewelry in one of the shops we stopped in and couldn't help but buy it.  Check out my finds!

I've been looking for a chunky bronze bracelet like this for a few years now and finally found this one yesterday!  The price was quite reasonable and since it was just what I was looking for, I went for it.  I also found one other piece I'm absolutely in love with... a pocket watch necklace!

We wandered around a bit more and didn't find much else, but I was really happy with my two purchases!  As we perused through L5P, We stopped in The Porter and I had my favorite Delirium Tremens from the tap. (hard to find here in the US!)  Our final stop before heading home was at the Wrecking Bar  where we got some water and a mini beer (I had a half-pint of their hefe).

Also, a small disclaimer- all this was over the course of several hours, our beer consumption was quite spread out, and Jesse and I were both fine to ride our bikes home.  We each only had a few mimosas (which were light on the champagne), one beer at Porter and a half-beer each at Wrecking Bar.  Since it was over the course of about five hours, we were definitely safe to bike.  I don't want anyone thinking we were biking under the influence!  Safety always comes first- our own safety and the safety of others.

We got home and decided it was time for our weekly trip to Whole Foods.  We made a list of what food we wanted for the week (I settled on Verde chicken, black bean burgers, shrimp and grits, and a chicken sausage hash) and headed out to get the groceries.  I love going to Whole Foods because I can walk from my house and it gives Jesse and me a little extra time together, just the two of us.  We always have a great time grocery shopping.

In the end, the cart looked something like this:

I think I'm pretty set with food for the week.  The Verde chicken turned out really well and was exceptionally easy due to the fact that I used a rotisserie chicken.  Jesse helped me with the verde sauce, and this is what he threw into the blender:
  • tomatillos
  • cilantro
  • lime
  • garlic
  • onion
  • salt & pepper
Simple and delicious!  We poured the verde sauce over the pulled chicken (from the rotisserie) and stirred in some corn.  Then we baked the mixture in a covered dish for about twenty minutes at 350.  It was super tasty.  I'll definitely be making that meal again soon.

I called it an early night after dinner and now it's back to the grind!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?
Do you prefer sweet or savory breakfast/brunch?

  1. Looks like a weekend VERY well spent!! I love long bike rides and it was one of my favourite things to do as a kid with my friends. Your new bracelet is gorgeous! Doesn't it feel so good when you're hunting for something specific and you finally find it? I had a similar experience this weekend with a belt. Sunday was also my fave day because I went on a fun little hike with one of my friends and the weather was so lovely. I hope your Monday is going well! :)
