Hello, hello! It is odd being back in the office after just one day off. I don't believe I've ever experienced this before unless it was a day away from the office due to doctors appointments or an illness. Never a day of fun interjected mid-week!
Yesterday definitely felt like Satur/Sunday. It started out really fun with the Peachtree Road Race!
This beautiful, giant flag was located at the start line. I felt so inspired and excited to be part of such an incredible American tradition.
This ended up being a tough race for me and that honestly came as no surprise. My lack of training due to various things including laziness and the plantar fasciitis I struggled with a few weeks back contributed as well as the heat. At one point I found myself extremely overheated and was forced to walk for about half a mile. I also walked at a few other points throughout the run. This race took me about 13 minutes longer to complete than my first 10K, but in the end I was fairly happy with my time.
Not too terrible for someone who didn't train much! The organization of the event really impressed me and though I definitely struggled with the heat at a few points, I really enjoyed the course, the environment, the spectators and the race. I'll definitely put my name in for the lottery next year and hope to run quite a few more Peachtree 10k's before my time is done.
After the race, I took a quick shower and then headed to the pool to enjoy the sun with Jesse and his family. It turned out to be a lovely afternoon and I somehow avoided getting sunburned even though we spent several hours outside enjoying the sun and the pool.
Jesse and I got cleaned up after the pool and headed out to Atkins Park for a quite bite for dinner. Nothing like barbecue, fried chicken and macaroni and cheese to celebrate America!
Dinner was delicious and afterwards, I was worn out and ready for bed. That 5am wake-up call meant an early bedtime.
Overall, it was a lovely 4th of July. Though I certainly missed being at the lake with my family, I really enjoyed the time I had running the Peachtree and celebrating with my boyman and his wonderful family.
I hope your 4th of July was wonderful as well and I can't wait to chat tomorrow! ...which is Friday... how crazy is that?! This week's schedule is weird but kind of awesome. :)
Hey a race is a race, and congrats for finishing it strong. It may not of been your best one, but theres always going to be more :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that the rest of your day was great. Your dinner looks delicious too btw!
Thanks, Jessie! For the comment and the kind words. I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
DeleteSounds like a holiday well-spent, and congrats on the race girl! Heat is definitely hard to run in. I think you did great!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteCongrats on the race! I'd say just finishing a long race in the middle of a hot summer is a huge accomplishment! That BBQ looks so delicious. I can't stop looking at the pasta salad!
ReplyDeleteThanks B!!
DeleteGreat job on the race! I'm sorry I didn't see you running. It was so humid - I felt a little bad for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI hated that I didn't see you either! I was looking for you but I think I was on the wrong side of the road based on your picture.
DeleteGood job! The Peachtree is definitely a hard one with the heat and the crowd and all that.
ReplyDeleteEveryone was complaining about today feeling like Monday at owrk, but I actually loved it because though it feels like Monday, tomorrow is Friday!
Thanks, Lee!! I totally agree how awesome it was that Friday came so quickly last week.
