High Five!

Can you believe it is already time for another High Five for Friday!?  I couldn't be more thrilled that the weekend is already here.  I've got dinner with a friend tonight, a movie with Lee tomorrow afternoon, and then clean-eating adventures with Laura and her friend Jennifer tomorrow night, then church on Sunday and hopefully a somewhat relaxing day!

Onto the high fives from this week!
  1. Bailey ran her first full mile last night! She was a lot happier than she looks in this picture, I promise!  I'm so proud.  And boy, did it feel good to run again.

  2. Before heading down to the beach with my friends, I spent more time with my family going through old things.  Lots of the stuff I went through included pictures and drawings from when my sister and I were little.  The memories associated with many of the things we found are priceless and I'm so thankful to my mother for saving and cherishing so much from our childhood.

  3. Getting out of town definitely makes my top-five list from this week.  It was great to spend some time with my friends, go on an adventure and see the ocean.  Even though we couldn't lay out in the sand, the trip was still just what I needed: rejuvenating and fun.

    Y'all like my outfit? ;]
  4. After a nearly two-week hiatus, I've started back with Insanity.  I allowed the holidays to throw me off, but y'all better believe I'm back at it!  Diggin deep.
  5. Finally, today is my first time participating in Laura's "Strange But Good" link up!  I got home from the beach on Wednesday and my mom had a "strange but good" meal for me to eat.  I just knew I had to share it.  Little does she know she's being featured, but here we go...

Gross, right?  Wrong.  New year's traditions state that one must eat black eyed "peas of plenty" for luck, ham to live "high on the hog," and greens for financial security.  My mom has always prepared a new year's day meal for our family, but I missed out this year since I was out of town.  (It was no surprise to find out she fed my portion to Bailey.)  Being the thoughtful, loving, superstitious mom that she is though, she saved me some.  But it looked different this year... She mashed it all together.  Peas of plenty mixed with celery, carrots and diced up high-on-the-hog ham.

I took her #strangebutgood creation up a notch and added greens to the mix when I had leftovers for dinner last night.  It may look disgusting, but it was seriously good.  I actually mix together beans, veggies and rice pretty frequently and enjoy "bean bowls," so this New Years Tradition Bowl was right up my alley.  Way to create an awesome #strangebutgood, Lucky Mama!!

    Sprint 2 the Table
That's all I've got for today.  I hope y'all have a fantastic Friday and an even better weekend!

Before you go, tell me:

What were your high-five from this week?

  4. Well some of mine are getting back into reading! I've been exclusively on audiobooks for months and it feels so good to pick up a good book! Right now I'm reading James Frey's "A Million Little Pieces." I know there was that huge Oprah scandal. I wonder what parts are true and what is made up. Other high 5's are hanging with Oliver, having Brenton make dinner, getting a cute haircut, and finally getting to see my personal trainer again. This was a long one :) Have a great weekend!

  5. Your weekend ahead sounds like so much fun!! My hi-5's for the week include picking the paint colours for my new house (sounds boring, but I'm excited about it!), getting to spend time with my friend Leanne who came to visit, lots of good food, the short work week, and crossing a lot of looming to-do's off my list!

Yes, this mom does read Lucky Zucca blog. Love it too.
Lucky Mama's High Five this week included spending time with family and simultaneously clearing out clutter. Reconnecting with friends, spending New Year's Day at home, and a Bulldog win round out my High Five.

  9. When I went to the food store last week, they were totally sold out of the canned black eyed peas!! I didn't know so many NJ people followed that superstition!! I think that meal sounds awesome!! That is so fun about the mile run, and that you are getting back into insanity. When does school start for you?
