The "Favorite Song" Workout

Good day everyone!  How are you this Wednesday?  I hope you're doing well!

I've finally got a post with a little substance for y'all!  Who is excited?

Remember how a while back I purchased Insanity and began the program?  I really liked it- the program definitely had me working up a sweat and feeling in shape, but truthfully, it was missing something.  The program is mostly cardio, and I prefer running or spin as cardio to at-home options like Insanity.  As much as I miss running and spin though, that wasn't quite what I felt like was really missing.

When I finally sat down and thought about it, I realized I missed the burn I use to get from my Body Works classes.  That burn from really working my muscles.  Strength training.  That was the missing piece.  So, last night, I changed things up and did a total body circuit that would help me feel the burn.  I almost did my Ain't No Rest for the Wicked workout, but I really wanted to jam out to my favorite tunes and not have to pay attention to a timer, so I ended up doing what I'm calling the "Favorite Song" Workout instead.

To begin, pick out ten of your favorite workout songs.  My list included:

It Girl Jason Derulo (Workout Remix) this is on iTunes but I can't find it on YouTube
Cruise Florida Georgia Line
Right Above It Lil Wayne
Opposite of Adults Chiddy Bang
The Show Goes On Lupe Fiasco
Magic B.o.B.
Live Your Life T.I. ft. Rhianna

What can I say, T.I. pumps me up.  Must be the ATL thing.  :D

To complete this workout, you will perform each of the following exercises for the duration of one song.  Take rests whenever necessary, but try to push yourself!  Your muscles will be fatigued by the end and I promise you'll feel the burn!

1. Jumping Jacks/ Jog In Place
2. Push-ups
3. Crunches
4. Squats
5. Tricep Dips
6. Lunges
7. Renegade Rows
8. Wall Sit
9. Shoulder Press
10. Mountain Climbers

I hope y'all will enjoy this workout as much as I did!  My muscles are definitely feeling it today!  I ended up doing a total of about 80 pushups, 200 crunches, 160 squats, 70 tricep dips, and 50 lunges per leg.  I lost count during the other exercises.  For certain exercises which I cannot do continuously for a long period of time like pushups and tricep dips, I chose to do ten and then rest for five to ten seconds and then repeat.  That method may work well for you too!

Please note that I am not a certified personal trainer nor educated in any way about fitness.  Always speak to your doctor and trainer prior to completing a workout if you are uncertain about anything.  This workout was created for fun and has no fitness knowledge backing it up... I have no idea whether it will actually create results.  (Doesn't that make you want to do it?!)

Before you go, tell me:
What ten songs would be on your list?

  2. This is such a good idea! Music definitely motivates me...I can feel myself slowing down when the beat of a song is slower and I always turn on a really upbeat song when I get tired/start to lose motivation.

    1. Same!! It's crazy- after running for nearly a year, I realized the music I was listening to made me slower and that I could run much faster if I'd just pick more upbeat tunes!

  3. I need to check out these songs - my playlist is in need of a re-vamp.

Love the man-candy you used in the graphic. LOL!

  4. There is no way I could do one song of pushups. Unless it was Happy Birthday! LOL

    1. You could do it with rest breaks!! That is how I did mine! Hoping one day to be able to do it all the way through but that won't be any time soon haha

  5. Ooh this sounds like a good one! 10 songs?! I don't know if I can pick just 10! Right now I'm loving Scream and Shout by Will.I.Am and Britney, but there are so many good gritty ones for those love-to-hate exercises like pushups. I swear I'm not a grunger but sometimes a little Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana gets me super pumped up and working hard!

    1. I know! I think picking just 10 songs was almost as hard as the workout itself!!

  8. Awesome workout idea!! I am totally ashamed of my picks, they will definitely involve Taylor Swift, and 90s pop punk :)

    1. No shame in those!! Taylor Swift almost made my list as did some of the 90's jams. These are just the ones I never EVER seem to get tired of!
